Iterated Belief Change and Exogeneous Actions in the Situation Calculus

چکیده
We present a novel theory of action and change capable of dealing with discord between an agent’s beliefs and the results of its sensing. Previous work by Scherl and Levesque [9] and Shapiro et al. [10] have given accounts of iterated belief update and revision, and the ability to deal with mistaken beliefs. However, they assume that all actions, including exogenous actions beyond the agent’s control, are accessible to the agent for the purposes of reasoning. Our approach abandons this idealistic stance and allows the agent to hypothesise the occurrence of exogenous actions to account for any discrepancy between belief and sensing.

Belief change with noisy sensing in the situation calculus
Situation calculus has been applied widely in artificial intelligence to model and reason about actions and changes in dynamic systems. Since actions carried out by agents will cause constant changes of the agents’ beliefs, how to manage these changes is a very important issue. Shapiro et al. [22] is one of the studies that considered this issue. However, in this framework, the problem of noisy...
متن کاملIterated Belief Change in the Situation Calculus
The ability to reason about action and change has long been considered a necessary component for any intelligent system. Many proposals have been offered in the past to deal with this problem. In this paper, we offer a new approach to belief change associated with performing actions that addresses some of the shortcomings of these approaches. In particular, our approach is based on a well-devel...

Action formalisms like the ¤uent calculus have been developed to endow logic-based agents with the abilities to reason about the effects of actions, to execute high-level strategies, and to plan. In this paper we extend the ¤uent calculus by a method for belief change, which allows agents to revise their internal model upon making observations that contradict this model. Unlike the existing com...
متن کاملMultiagent Knowledge and Belief Change in the Situation Calculus
Belief change is an important research topic in AI. It becomes more perplexing in multi-agent settings, since the action of an agent may be partially observable to other agents. In this paper, we present a general approach to reasoning about actions and belief change in multi-agent settings. Our approach is based on a multiagent extension to the situation calculus, augmented by a plausibility r...
